Tour: Veloso Trail – Curral de Pedras & Serra Panoramic Views

The Veloso Trail is the most immersive route for exploring the Serra do Veloso in its purest form — where nature, archaeology, and dramatic scenery come together. Stretching approximately 7.2 km and taking around 5.5 hours to complete, the trail links key historic mining structures and climbs to the top of the range, where the landscape opens up to two major river basins: the Rio Doce and the Rio das Velhas.

The hike begins at Mina Du Veloso and passes through the Mundéus Complex, a set of structures once used to decant gold-rich sediment. From there, the trail runs alongside a section of the Lagoa da Prata aqueduct, revealing the path through which water was channeled to support mining operations. The walk continues to a small clearing before ascending to Curral de Pedras, the highest point on the trail and one of the region’s most remarkable geosites.

At the summit, beyond the well-preserved archaeological remains, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views — a rare chance to look out over the Rio Doce basin on one side and the Rio das Velhas basin on the other, from one of the highest vantage points in the Serra do Veloso.
